Pavers

We caught the workmen putting down the pavers for our new home and took this picture. If you look closely, you can see the dust coming up from the gentleman on the right using a power saw. Of course, clicking on the picture, gives you a nice close-up of the action.

Notice that the form boards are in place for the sidewalk to be poured. We also noticed that the all-important air conditioner has been installed.

Later in the week, we took the following pictures of the finished pavers, sidewalk, and stone trim.

Pretty Coat Turns Brothers Green

Joseph's coat of many colors provoked his brothers into a frenzy of jealousy and bad choices. See Genesis for an interesting story.

Amazing Tree

We were driving down a new street one afternoon, and I spotted this amazing tree. I had Johnny make a U-turn and pull into a parking lot so that I could get these shots.

Here's a close-up of the blooms. This is Fall in Tampa, folks! Ain't it grand?

Progressing

There's been a good bit done this past week. The cabinets were delivered! I was excited when I took this shot.

But, a couple of days later, Woo Hoo! I was beyond excited! Here's a shot of one wall of the kitchen. These are cherry cabinets, stained with the color, "spice." That's an apt name for a kitchen color, don't you think?

This shot is "off" with the color, but it allows you to kinda see the molding on the cabinet tops. I've never had such elaborate cabinets.

The interior painting has been accomplished. It's all "builder's white." After closing, we'll change that. The window sills, baseboards, and interior doors have been installed. Here's a shot of a window sill and the baseboard--just standard.

The outside of the house has been painted, and the garage door has been installed. I had a difficult time getting a picture to show you the exterior color. This is the best one of the lot. The front door, garage door, and window trim will not remain white.

Our closing has been scheduled for December 14th. Ho, ho, ho!

Blogger Needs Glasses!

CC at Lace ‘n Ribbon Roses gave me the Gorgeous Blogger Award last Thursday. Clearly, CC has problems with her vision! She’s a blogger who is devoted to Sunbonnet Sue. Check her out.

For the award, I am to tell six things about myself and then pass the award on to six other people.

I have a twin brother. Some people are astounded when they learn this because they only understand identical twins. We are fraternal twins: two separate eggs and two separate saqs. No, we do not “look alike;” he was born with blue booties, while I was born with pink booties!

I was raised in Washington, D.C., and I have climbed up the Washington monument four times!

I smoked from the ages of fifteen through twenty-five. It was a very difficult habit to break, but I’m glad that I did break it.

I see nothing wrong with having a diet drink with a piece of pie.

I did not begin college until after my children married.

6. I bit my fingernails to the quick until around age forty-two. Then, I quit by applying one coat of clear nail polish every day. If you're a nail biter, try this; it really works!

The people that I tag (ahem, I mean, honor) are:

1. Elizabeth at Thoughts from an Evil Overlord
2. Kathleen at Focus on Interiors
3. Darlene at Darlene's Days
4. Joy at Joy's Web
5. Betsy at Joyful Reflections

We weren't home until after 8:00 on Saturday night, and not a single Trick or Treater came by. Now, I have two bags of Snickers to call out my name. (It's noisy around here!)

Some people say that they're running low on blue. I seem to find it everywhere I look. Remember it doesn't have to be attractive. I even found blue used as these containers.

Happy Blue Monday!

Goodness!

This one was too good to pass up! However, Psalm 23 is a good one, especially as Thanksgiving approaches.

1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Out and About

I'm sure that you, like me, are always are on the look-out for Pinks (or blues!) as you are out and about. Look at this splash of pink!

I have no clue what the plant is named, but it certainly makes a statement against this white fence.

Plants Need Sunshine

Today I'm joining Tootsie at Tootsietime for Fertilzer Friday. This is a lady who not only has a green thumb, but a pair of green hands! She does remarkable things with plants while living in cold country. Could you imagine what she'd do in sunny Florida?

You may remember that we are renting a condominium while our new house is being built. To make the place a bit more like home, I bought a pot of blooms and a palm tree. (This is Florida, and I WILL have my palm!)

This porch faces North, so after a few months, my plant is yucky, and the palm tree is beginning to whimper. Tootsie encouraged me to show all, so here it is.

From a distance, it doesn't look too bad.

Upon closer inspection, you can see the little tree needs to be trimmed. Can you hear the sad whimpering? I can.

This is the one pretty bloom left in this poor sun-deprived Anthurium.

Look at the leaves. Besides a lack of sun, did we fertilize too much? Too little? I'm guessing that the plant might have had a time-release fertilizer when we bought it, so it didn't need our feeding. I'm going to let it alone for a time. Perhaps when we move into our new place, it'll snap back into its former beauty. Let's hope.

I hope to see you back for Blue Monday!

We Have Walls!

Last Wednesday evening, we snapped these pictures of our walls getting taped. After the dry wall is up, walls are taped and plastered with drywall mud. The following day, the walls are sanded, and then another layer of plaster is applied. When that dries, the walls are given a final light sanding. Soon, I will be able to measure for window treatments.

This is standing in the dining room, looking toward the front door.

Thursday, we were surprised (and thrilled!) to discover that they were applying stucco to the outside of the house. You'll remember that block walls are under that stucco. They give it two coats: a scratch coat and a finish coat. Next the house will be painted. This is the front of the home, looking down the block.

For the first time, here is a shot of the back of the house. I took it with the zoom lens from across the pond. Although not all are seen in these pictures, we counted seven men working. That's a good sized crew. We drove back a little after 7 PM, and they were still at it!

This is NOT the color of the house, as it's not yet painted.

Later in the week, we got this shot of the walls being sanded.

Yesterday, we discovered that the walls and ceilings were completed. According to the builder's prediction, it should be five more weeks until we close.

Please com back for Blue Monday!

Four Question Test

I got this email from a nonblogging friend. Forgive me if you've seen it before.

1. How do you put a giraffe into a refrigerator?

Stop and think about it and decide on your answer before you scroll down.

The correct answer is: Open the refrigerator, put in the giraffe, and close the door. This question tests whether you tend to do simple things in an overly complicated way.

2 How do you put an elephant into a refrigerator?

Did you say, Open the refrigerator, put in the elephant, and close the refrigerator?

Wrong Answer.

Correct Answer: Open the refrigerator, take out the giraffe, put in the elephant and close the door. This tests your ability to think through the repercussions of your previous actions.

3. The Lion King is hosting an animal conference. All the animals
attend.... Except one. Which animal does not attend?

Correct Answer : The Elephant. The elephant is in the refrigerator. You just put him in there. This tests your memory. Okay, even if you did not answer the first three questions correctly, you still have one more chance to show your true abilities.

4. There is a river you must cross but it is used by crocodiles, and
you do not have a boat. How do you manage it?

Correct Answer:? You jump into the river and swim across. Have you not been listening? All the crocodiles are attending the Animal Meeting. This tests whether you learn quickly from your mistakes.

Some people are asking how I/we plan to decorate our new home. (I say "we" because unlike other houses we've owned, this is the first time that Johnny is an active participant in decorating. Up until now, he's been busy working, but this time, he's jumped into the decorating decisions with both feet. Oh yes, his favorite color is blue--always has been.

Today, I'm sharing some of the choices we've made for our living room. Of course, you will see some blue. This is a sample of the silk material we've chosen for the drapes for our living room, dining room, and foyer. I taped it to a white door to try to give you a good color idea. The soft blue is cut off in the right lower corner, but I think you'll get the idea.

We recently selected this rug from Home Depot when they had a 50% off sale. It's wool and has many shades of blues and tans.

I'll give you a closer look so that the blue is more obvious.

Here's a good close-up of some of the blue.

I've placed a cushion from our living room chair that came from South Florida on top of the rug. At the lower right is one piece of our tile flooring peeking out.

I am getting excited about our new home. We visit it every day. I love having you blogging friends who give me so many creative ideas.

Happy Blue Monday!
